Accidents involving hazardous chemicals account for only a relatively small proportion of all accidents in Switzerland: about 6.5% of occupational accidents and only about 1.6% of non-occupational accidents. However, the picture is quite different when considering the resulting fatalities. Among all fatal occupational accidents, those involving hazardous substances account for approximately 11%; for non-occupational accidents, it is 10%.
